Oh, The Mutilator...

To this day, Buddy Cooper's 1984 movie sticks in the mind of many a horror fan. Rather than for the overall quality of the film, mind, that's largely down to the annoyingly catchy opening theme tune. Seriously, if you can hear that Fall Break song and not have it rattling around your head for a solid few hours, more power to ya.

Anyways, plot-wise, The Mutilator opens up with Jack Chatham's Big Ed returning home to celebrate his birthday. Ed's wife has spent the afternoon making him a special cake, whilst his young son, Ed Jr., decided to polish his old man's numerous guns as a way to say Bon Anniversarie.

What could possibly go wrong, right?

Well, Ed Jr. accidentally unloads a gun straight through the chest of his ma, and Big Ed arrives at the scene shortly after to chastise his son, hug his wife's corpse, then pour a bourbon for his deceased beloved.

Skipping ahead to Ed Jr. now in college, he and his pals head out to the old family holiday home to do, well, generic horror movie boozing and shagging - only for Big Ed to be lurking in the shadows to slaughter his son and pals.

Unfortunately, Big Ed's kills are all a smidge lame, but one highlight is the murder of an unnamed cop. Falling foul of Chatham's character on the beach, this lawman has a machete wedged in his head before being decapitated. Adding an extra level of impressiveness to this sequence, the cop's torch drops to the floor and highlights his severed head.
