10 Trash Horror Movies With 1 Amazing Kill

6. Would You Rather - Conway

Jaws: The Revenge Banana Boat
IFC Films

Would You Rather isn't totally awful, but the biggest issue with this 2012 effort is it feels too late. By that, the torture porn trappings of this David Guy Levy-helmed picture may have worked five years prior, but horror had (thankfully!) moved on by the time of Would You Rather.

Premise-wise, this film is anchored by bonkers millionaire Shepard Lambrick (the ever-great Jeffrey Combs), who offers a handsome payout for those who can survive his twisted dinner party games. Those games? Why, they're a dog-eat-dog affair that descends into kill or be killed - all while Lambrick smuggly dangles his wealth in front of those seeking financial assistance.

As a prime example of Lambrick's asshat behaviour, John Heard's Conway is one of the first to have his principles tested. Once Combs' character discovers that Conway is a recovering alcoholic who is in massive debt, he offers him $10,000 to drink a glass of wine. When Conway defiantly refuses, Lambrick ups the ante by offering $50,000 for him to drink a full decanter of whiskey.

That in itself was enough to break Conway, but he would later wind up being the first victim of the film. After deciding he no longer wants to play these sinister games, a sozzled Conners tries to make a run for it - only to get fatally shot in the forehead.

What makes this death so impactful is the sheer shock of it and how Conway's fellow guests realise what sort of situation they're really in.
