2. Jared Leto - Suicide Squad

Recasting the Joker was always going to be a huge deal, and there was much excitement when Oscar winner Jared Leto took the role. Sure, he gives off douchey rock star vibes in real life, but the man knows how to act. The marketing for Suicide Squad heavily focussed on Joker, releasing numerous photos and trailers that seemed to make him look important to the story.

To be fair David Ayer always stated the Joker wasn’t the main threat, but it’s doubtful anyone walking into Suicide Squad expected just how little of the character there was. Leto has maybe ten minutes of screentime total and just disappears about halfway through.

Fans were annoyed, not only be his lack of screentime but by how little the Joker actually affects the story; if all his scenes were deleted, events would turn out the same way.

Even Leto was annoyed by this, feeling he – and the audience – were mis-sold on the character’s importance.
