6. The Hills Have Eyes (2006) - The Family Fights Back

It doesn't matter which version of the film you've seen or grown up with or even prefer (I grew up on the 2006 version and hence will use as reference), the core story of cannibalistic horror staple
The Hills Have Eyes remains the same - a family on a trip are captured, tortured and killed by said family of flesh-eating cannibals before they start to fight back. Ultimately it's the fighting back that proves such a crowd-pleasing moment - with their parents dead, it's up to siblings Bobby and Brenda to spring an explosive trap on the leader of the family while previously-nerdy brother-in-law Doug (a terrific Aaron Stanford) ventures into the family's abode to rescue his baby daughter. There are killer moments all around (figuratively and literally), from Doug's triumphant take-down of his daughter's captors to the moment where Emilie de Ravin's formerly-bratty Brenda buries a rage-fuelled ax in Papa Jupiter's head. It's a bloody, gory final act that leaves no one untouched but the survivors still standing, having earned their movie exit as bittersweet but triumphant, final sting aside.
