7. The Shining (1980) - The Bathroom
The Shining is a bit of a classic in terms of atmospheric, slow-burning horror - Jack Nicholson is a scary, broken revelation in the role of Jack Torrance, a man who loses his sanity in a snowy hotel and almost kills his family in a film that's as mysterious and shrouded in intrigue and thoughtful analysis as director Stanley Kubrick's catalogue of work itself. The best and creepiest scene, however, takes place in a time-tripping sequence, shrouded in mystery, in the Overland hotel's ballroom bathroom - former caretaker Delbert Grady (Philip Stone) confronts Jack about their shared destinies or their shared histories. The scene is eerie, particularly given it takes place in the overhued orange-tiled bathroom, a bright oversaturated spot of darkness in a creepy film. Jack's always been the caretaker and Grady's always been the creepiest scene-stealer in the movie.
