10 Truly Awful Superhero Movie & TV Love Interests
1. Sharon Carter - Captain America: Civil War
So in the first Captain America film, Steve Rogers has Peggy Carter as his love interest. She is unbelievably awesome and stands out as proof that it is possible to be a superhero's girlfriend and have your own life.
Seriously, one of the best characters in any of the Marvel films. But due to Captain America sort of unnecessarily crashing his plane into the North Pole and being frozen for decades, she isn't exactly a feasible romantic counterpoint for his character after he's brought into the present day. So they come up with the next best thing and...have him date her niece.
Does it seriously bother no one in the Avengers universe that Captain America's new love interest is the niece of his old flame? Literally no one finds that weird and a little bit creepy? Honestly, the only way it could be worse is if they had Hayley Atwell playing Sharon Carter as well in one of those inexplicable, "Welp, they're related, so that means that we can get away with them being identical" casting plays.
And really, Steve doesn't need a girlfriend in the second and third Captain America movies. What's the point of throwing one in if she's just going to be barely developed at all? Honestly, the audience is more than happy to ship him with one of the characters everyone already likes (see: Cap/Bucky, Cap/Natasha).
