10 Truly Awful Superhero Movie & TV Love Interests

8. Iris - The Flash

There are a lot of issues with the character of Iris in the current adaptation of The Flash on the CW, and unfortunately very few of them are actress Candice Patton's fault. She's presented immediately as the love of Barry Allen's life, which is problematic, because the show doesn't really give viewers enough solid insight into their relationship to make this believable.

Because of how quickly their one-sided love story is established, it expects audiences to buy into it in the very first episode, when most of us are pulling a Jason Bateman from Arrested Development and going, "Really? Her?"

And it's not like she doesn't seem like a perfectly nice girl, but there's not a whole lot going on there to make us fall in love with her right away, or to really understand how Barry has. It's the classic mistake where they spend a lot of time telling viewers how close they are and how long Barry has been in love with her, but don't do a great job of showing it and making us feel it.

Also, sorry, but she loses points right off the bat for not having some inkling that Barry is the Flash after standing like four feet away from him dozens of times and having full conversations with him (even with the voice modulation). Girl, you lived in a house with this boy for over half your life, how could you not put the pieces together?
