6. Light Cycle Clash - Tron Legacy

This long-awaited sequel to the 1982 cult classic was a comparatively decisive product with underdeveloped characters, a narrative that lacked depth and weight, and a badly de-aged Clu (Jeff Bridges) in a notable example of de-aging technology's initial limitations. However, its remaining visuals, minimalist set design, and Daft Punk-produced score helped it stand apart from most sci-fi movies of the early 2010s.

The action greatly benefitted from these creative choices, as well as the film's video game-inspired world. The height of its visual creativity can be seen in the light cycle clash that takes place early on in the film.

The hard light constructs' VFX work blend well with the characters and the light streaks that emanate from the light cycles add a sense of dangers rarely seen in vehicular conflicts. The sound design and the electronic-assisted score add to the scene's overall immersion and - along with the stunning visuals - made up for the rather lacking story and characters.
