10 TV Show Finales Fans Totally Rejected
6. Girls
Girls started out as a groundbreaking show, effectively remixing the Sex and the City formula for millennials, writing its four central cast members through a refreshingly feminist, forward-thinking lens.
Many were baffled, then, that the series finale decided to saddle protagonist Hannah (Lena Dunham) with a baby and, frankly, a staggeringly conventional life centered around her motherhood.
For a series so thoroughly concerned with the place of women in the world, it almost felt like a thumbing of the nose at those who hoped, even expected Hannah to set off on a grand adventure and become the literary voice of her generation.
Then there's the fact that the finale was focused entirely on Hannah and Marnie (Allison Williams) without paying any attention to the peripheral characters, making it feel oddly compartmentalised for a series finale.
It wasn't all bad, but it still felt like a damp squib ending for a show that had so many smart and provocative things to say about contemporary young-adult life, to conclude on such a perfunctory shoulder shrug.
