10 Types Of Movies You Don't See Any More

When Bruce Lee died under mysterious circumstances in 1973, exploitation filmmakers sought to cash in on the superstar’s passing by cranking out a series of pictures where a lookalike (typically billed as “Bruce Le” or “Bruce Li”) battled villains in an otherwise unremarkable chop socky entry. Bruce Lee Fights Back From The Grave is far less interesting than its title, while The Clones Of Bruce Lee is a flat-out lie – none of the several performers in the film look anything like the Little Dragon.

In 1978, director Robert Clouse took fight footage Lee shot before his death and, with the help of a stand-in, edited it into Game Of Death. For a “tribute” to the dead star, it’s remarkably tacky, even utilising footage of Lee’s funeral.

As late as 1986, “Bruce” was making appearances in films such as No Retreat No Surrender, a Karate Kid rip-off where a bullied teenager is taught martial arts by Lee’s ghost. Thankfully, the movie was subsequently overshadowed by its villain, played by the then unknown Jean-Claude Van Damme.
