10. Where Did Aldo Raine Get His Scar? - Inglourious Basterds
Although this isn't a "nagging" question in the same vein as some of the other entries here, it's certainly an intriguing little character detail that opens up a world of possibilities and questions: how did Aldo Raine get that iconic scar of his neck in Quentin Tarantino's
Inglourious Basterds? If you've seen the movie, there's no doubt that this inclusion caught your eye. And although Tarantino purposely put this into his movie as something to remain unexplained and ambiguous, it's still far too noticeable to just write off. Because, let's face it, you don't get a wound like that unless there's a really, really good story to go with it, do you? It's the stuff of legend. So, yes, although the vague nature of Raine's scar makes it interesting enough, we're all still left wondering how it happened. Rope burn? Was it slit with a knife? There may, in fact, be an "unofficial" answer! Back before Tarantino made
Django Unchained, you see, he talked about doing a prequel movie to
Basterds about the KKK set in the south, in which Aldo Raine would have featured, and offered the possibility that they lynched him when he took to meddling. In Tarantino's original script for
Basterds, it does even mention that Raine received a lynching, though it's accompanied with a note saying that the true circumstances will remain unexplained.
