10 Unanswered Movie Questions That Kept You Up All Night
4. Does The Top Keep Spinning? - Inception (2010)
After finally performing the mind heist which promises to be his ticket home, Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) returns to the U.S., where hes greeted by his father-in-law (Michael Caine), who reunites him with his two young children. Cobb spins Mals (Marion Cotillard) spinning top totem to see if hes still dreaming, but doesnt stick around to see if it topples or not, instead keen to play with his kids. The final shot closes in on the top as it appears to waver but doesnt fall over. Cut to black. Has there been a more frustrating movie ending in recent history? Does the top keep spinning? Is Cobb still in a dream? What's the deal? Well, one popular theory denotes that actually, Cobbs totem wasn't the spinning top at all: it was actually his wedding ring, which can be glimpsed in every single scene set in the dream world. To back this theory up, the ring is never seen during any scenes set in the real world. Typically, this has never been confirmed by Nolan or anyone involved in the movie, so let the speculation continue.
