6. Why Does Trevor Slattery Have A Captain America Tattoo On His Neck?
One of the most bizarre easter eggs in the MCU to date - albeit one that was picked up on from a trailer, before the movie even came out - is the Captain America-esque tattoo on the neck of Trevor Slattery aka "The Mandarin." Shane Black has shed some light on it, suggesting that it's simply part of the iconography of a "cobbled together" villain, and that "a Captain America shield with an anarchy symbol in the middle of it a corruption of America." Co-writer Drew Pearce offered his own sentiment, saying that it reflects the question - "How would a think tank create a terrorist?", and that post-Battle of New York, Cap's shield would have been a major piece of American iconography. Even so, it seems a little on-the-nose, and given how The Mandarin's character was already completely ruined, adding this tattoo for what was basically a throwaway comment never really engaged with in the film seems like something of a waste.
