10 Under-Appreciated Recent Movies Destined To Become Cult Classics
1. Hereditary
Toni Collette deserved an Oscar last year more than anyone
has since Heath Ledger won it in 2008. But alas, she wasn’t even nominated.
Collette’s performance is the highlight of a horror film that is all but
destined to go down in horror history. Hereditary isn’t a tight and clean-cut
scary movie, but by golly does it scare.
The film leaves more questions than answers, but that was all part of the plan for Ari Aster. The movie, much like It Comes at Night, isn’t so much about the supernatural as it is about what it does to the family. Watch as a tragedy turns each member against the other until the truth is slowly divulged. The film’s Aster’s freshman feature and what a first at-bat it was. The film actually did well at the box office, but only because every horror fan knew this was one they had to see.
In the vein of The Shining, Rosemary’s Baby, The Thing, and The Witch; Hereditary will, if it hasn’t already, become one of the most stressed films in horror movie lore.
