9. THX 1138
Although it may be a slow watch, THX 1138 manages to present an incredibly bleak dystopian view of the world of tomorrow where people no longer have names, but are referred to as numbers. They work all day, kept in almost complete isolation and at the first display of strong human emotion are taken away by metallic stormtrooper police robots to never be heard from again. This pre-Star Wars George Lucas and young Robert Duval collaboration is brilliant, but hard to get into if you're not a big lover of sci-fi. The sense of isolation and oppression this movie achieves in portraying is on the same level as Orwell's 1984. However, unlike 1984, THX ends on a happy note that will leave you inspired. If you're a fan of sci-fi you should definitely give it a watch.
