10 Most Underrated 90s Teen Movies

10. Mallrats

Rotten Tomatoes: 55% It might float near the lower end of Kevin Smith's filmography in terms of quality, but Mallrats is still a riotously entertaining slacker comedy that nevertheless suffered from being Smith's follow-up to Clerks, and as a result expectations were enormously high that he'd replicate the same sort of success. The adventures of T.S. (Jeremy London) and Brodie (Jason Lee) at the mall after they both break up with their girlfriends unarguably lacks the fiery hilarity of Clerks, but the outrageously profane conversations, such as the debate about what would happen if Superman and Lois Lane tried to have sex, still hit the mark. Plus, it features the return of Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith), which is always a pleasure, and one of the best cameos in Smith's entire back catalogue: Stan Lee shows up for a few minutes to give Brodie some sage dating advice. It's flawed and Smith clearly struggles with the demands of a big studio like Universal, yet it delivers consistent laughs, and Jason Lee does some of his very best work in the lead role.
