10 Underrated Action Movies That Didn't Deserve To Bomb At The Box Office

On paper, The Long Kiss Goodnight seemed to possess all of the ingredients required to be a huge hit. Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout writer Shane Black was working well within his wheelhouse, director Renny Harlin was the man behind Die Hard 2 and Cliffhanger, while leading lady Geena Davis was one of the most popular female stars in Hollywood and co-star Samuel L. Jackson was still riding high off the back of Pulp Fiction and Die Hard with a Vengeance.

Unfortunately for the husband and wife team of Harlin and Davis, their collaboration on Cutthroat Island the previous year had been a disaster of epic proportions that had done their reputations and standing in the business little favors, while Black has since admitted that female-led action movies weren't exactly an easy sell in the mid-90s.

The $65m buddy movie ultimately failed to reach $90m at the box office, despite boasting some of Black's most memorable one-liners and one of the most criminally-underrated buddy movie duos in Davis and Jackson. The Long Kiss Goodnight delivered a standout action thriller about an amnesiac super-spy years before Jason Bourne first landed on our screens, but has sadly never been held in the same kind of high regard.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
