Elizabeth Banks shared the majority of her limited screen time in Raimis Spider-Man films with J.K. Simmons, so its a testament to her ability that she managed to hold her own. Simmons will probably always be best known for playing the irascible J. Jonah Jameson, Peter Parkers brutal boss and Spider-Mans most formidable enemy. He swallowed up every scene as the cantankerous motormouth, and its a pity Marc Webb didnt try to tempt Simmons back for his Spider-Man reboot. Still, theres plenty more to the actor than his memorable take on the Daily Bugle boss. Just a few days ago, Simmons received his most prestigious awards recognition to date when the nominees for the imminent Golden Globes ceremony were announced. Simmons was named as one of the five contenders in the Supporting Actor category, and his performance as a music instructor in Whiplash has made him the outright favourite to clear up in the awards season. Simmons made an early impact in TV shows Law & Order and Oz, and in recent years he has become a frequent collaborator with Jason Reitman, appearing in all six of the directors films to date. Its in some of these roles that Simmons versatility becomes apparent, his restrained turns in Juno and Up In The Air proving welcome counterpoints to the angry persona he inhabits with ease.
I watch movies and I watch sport. I also watch movies about sport, and if there were a sport about movies I'd watch that too. The internet was the closest thing I could find.
