10 Underrated Animated Movies That Deserve A Second Chance

7. The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists

Tintin Movie
Columbia Pictures

Truly one of the most underrated animated movies ever, The Pirates! was made by Aardman Animatons, the team behind Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit.

The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists might very well be the worst name for a movie ever, and perhaps that was a reason it failed to grab audiences when it released in 2012. Regardless of the movie's lack of commercial success, The Pirates! scored an 86% on Rotten Tomatoes for being one of the "smartest, most skilfully animated" movies of modern times. The film certainly boasted awesome stop-motion animation, which Aardman used to add to its already uniquely British style of humour.

The basic premise is that the Pirate Captain sets out with his band of misfits to become Pirate of the Year. What follows is a belly-aching series of events that take the pirates to exotic islands, the streets of London, and even to a showdown with the Queen. Wallace & Gromit is Aardman's most popular work but The Pirates! has a shout at being the best.
