10 Underrated Animated Movies You Have To See

9. Monsters Vs. Aliens (2009)

Monsters vs. Aliens actually did fairly well when it was released back in 2009 (despite a packed year for animated movies), but seems in the years since to have slipped from memory. Which sucks, because it's easily one of the most enjoyable family animations on offer, sporting a bonkers plot, moving sequences and some truly unforgettable voice work.

The film follows Susan (Reese Witherspoon), a woman who finds herself mutated into a giant and teamed-up with a group of monster misfits (Will Arnett, Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogen, Jimmy Kimmel) to destroy an alien fleet that's threatening to overthrow Earth.

Wonderful madcap fun at its finest, Monsters vs. Aliens is about as predictable as they come from a plot standpoint, but makes up for its relatively safe storytelling with heap loads of action, memorable characters, and a rare instance of Paul Rudd playing someone who's genuinely unlikeable.

If that hasn't sold you, just watch the film's President (Stephen Colbert) playing the Beverly Hills Cop theme for the invading aliens...

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
