10 Underrated Disney/Pixar Songs
2. Why Should I Worry? - Oliver and Company
From one adaptation of a classic to another, let's take a trip to 1988 and Disney's New York transplant of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist.
Oliver becomes a homeless kitten, Bill Sykes becomes a loan shark, and Fagin's gang become loveable street dogs.
One of those dogs is Dodger, played by New York's very own Billy Joel. And when you've got Billy Joel on staff, you gotta let him sing a song.
"Why Should I Worry?" introduces us to the streetwise, carefree Dodger as he struts around the city like he owns the place. He outwits Oliver at every turn, leading the feckless feline on a wild dog chase through a construction site, a busy road, and the back streets of The Big Apple.
Joel is a fantastic singer, we all knew that, but he snuck this performance past everyone and puts in a great turn as Dodger. The song is also really well-suited to his voice and, let's be honest, any Billy Joel song even remotely about New York was always going to be good.
The film may not be Disney's best-reviewed work, but don't let that put you off enjoying this divine song from one of the world's greatest performers.
