Directed by Don't Breathe helmer Fede Alvarez, 2013's Evil Dead reboot exceeded expectations and proved a huge hit with both audiences and critics by eschewing the self referential humour of original series creator Sam Raimi's later instalments.
Instead this tense and terrifying flick opts to ape the style of the original 1983 video nasty, stripping away comic relief for an unrelenting exercise in terror. Like The Descent earlier in this list, it's not a movie many would call underrated as the flick enjoyed success upon its release and has been warmly received since.
However, there's one scare late in the flick which rarely gets credit for just how disturbing it is, most likely because of how overstuffed with chilling content this one is.
