10 Underrated Movies (That Were Just Misunderstood)
8. Chloe
Chloe showcases the perfect relationship between a husband and a wife; they have decent, well-paid jobs, money to spare to furnish their insanely gorgeous home, and an only child to add to their picture-perfect frame. It seems like the perfect cookie-cutter existence, or is it?
Of course it's not, because that would be exceedingly boring. Behind the lens, there are mountains of insecurity and a huge lack of trust between the husband and wife. The rift paves the way for Chloe to cause those cracks to transform into ravines.
This story is so much more than just a cheating husband, it tackles some thought-provoking subjects. The fact that some relationships can slowly disintegrate over time, and the subject of desire as women get older. All in all, it's a fascinating subject matter which is handled supremely well by the talented cast. It's poignant, full of wisdom and most certainly worthwhile.
Chloe has been labelled as artificial, pretentious and too artsy. Each character has their own distinctive personality whether they are attractive to the viewer or not. Chloe is portrayed as sweet, vulnerable and soft whereas Catherine (the wife) is seen to be cold, brittle and self-important. It's easier to warm to Chloe, while it's harder to feel anything for the suspicious wife; they are anything but artificial.
They are all fully-fledged characters with strengths and weaknesses. Chloe is smart and authentic in its use of using actions instead of words to show its intent to the viewer, and there is nothing pretentious about that.
