10 Underrated Movies With Star Trek Actors
8. Kubo And The Two Strings - George Takei
The charming George Takei has been a pop culture mainstay since his breakout role as Hikaru Sulu in the original series and various appearances throughout films and spin-off series set in the Star Trek universe. He has since parlayed his notoriety into various roles over the last five decades as well as social activism.
The actor's filmography is diverse and eclectic in nature, featuring projects ranging from family-friendly fare to weightier narratives. He is also a prominent voice actor, and one of his best projects in this capacity is Kubo and the Two Strings.
The fantasy epic from the always reliable Laika Studios follows Kubo, a young boy who needs to wield his father's armour and stop his diabolical grandfather's schemes. The film features visually stunning stop-motion animation, a haunting story, and an equally somber score as well as game vocal performances from the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, and of course Takei, in a delightful bit role.
It was a critical and awards darling but a box office failure, barely recouping its budget. However, it has since received a cult following due to its winning attributes.
