10 Unexpected Movie Deaths That Came Out Of NOWHERE

6. Donna Sheridan - Mamma Mia 2

Mamma Mia was a fun, lighthearted musical that hundreds of thousands of people flocked to and instantly had all of Abba's catchy tunes stuck in their heads. Whilst a lot of them could do without hearing Pierce Brosnan trying to string a tune together again, Meryl Streep's character of Donna Sheridan was a exceptionally optimistic and likeable character played very well throughout the film.

She was at the heart of everything during the first film, ended the movie with things set up nicely with her daughter and partner back on side and looked set for many happy musically-themed adventures in the future.

So it therefore must have been a bit of a shock for audiences who turned up to watch the film's sequel in 2016 and suddenly find out that the character had died offscreen. Sure, the whole film is a prequel and Streep turns out to deliver some gooey moments and have the standard group finale track at the end, but she's still dead ultimately.

It's all just a bit suddenly morbid for an otherwise fairly cheery musical set on a beautiful island in the Mediterranean.
