10 Unintentionally Funny Moments From Batman V Superman
3. Well, That's Lucky
Man of Steel got a lot of criticism for its enormous levels of destruction. It appeared Superman waged war against Zod in the center of Metropolis without any concern for the well-being of its citizens. So how would its sequel fix that problem? Maybe have the climatic showdown be a more intimate fight, free of images of buildings crumbling down? Nah, we'll just do the same thing but constantly interrupt the fight to tell the audience that there's no one around to get hurt.
And so that's the logic the filmmakers went with for the 3-on-1 fight with Doomsday. With energy blasts, laser vision and brawling superheros demolishing Metropolis, Anderson Cooper keeps butting in to tell us that the city is virtually abandoned at this time.
That's right, Metropolis, the DC equivalent of New York City, turns into a ghost town after 5pm.
It's a true laugh out loud moment for a couple reasons. First, the utter preposterousness of suggesting this level of damage didn't kill anyone. And second, that this was the answer to the complaints of Man of Steel. Not to scale back the destruction porn, but just to add a throwaway line that has more place in a Saturday morning cartoon.
On the bright side, at least no one got hurt.
