10 Unintentionally Funny Moments In Harry Potter
7. Lucius Attempts To Murder Harry – The Chamber Of Secrets
Harry demonstrates his quick thinking and goodwill when he sets Dobby free at the end of The Chamber of Secrets.
Lucius Malfoy responds – unsurprisingly – with aggression and spite. Though he does attempt to harm Harry in the original novel, there is no indication that he is trying to kill him. In the movie adaptation, however, it’s clear Lucius is partway through the Killing Curse when he is stopped by Dobby.
The amusement in this scene comes from Lucius’s overreaction and his disregard for the consequences of what he’s trying to do. If he’d managed to murder Harry, he would have received a life sentence in Azkaban.
To top it all off, Lucius then tells Harry he’ll meet the ‘same, sticky, end’ as his parents. Such a corny line – far from feeling threatening – makes this scene even more comedic.
