10 Unintentionally Hilarious Moments In Horror Movies

9. A Mouth Full Of Shotgun - Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation

House Of The Dead
New Line Cinema

The previous two sequels of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre were trashed by critics. Fans were hoping the next entry in the franchise would be a return to form since it was directed by the co-writer of the original, Kim Henkel. However, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation was met with ridicule for its hammy performances and non-sensical plot (Leatherface is in the Illuminati now!)

This slasher would have been a forgettable mess if it wasn't for the insane performance of a pre-fame Matthew McConaughey as the psychotic Vilmer. Now, it's not uncommon to have a larger-than-life character in a horror flick, but Vilmer comes across as laughable rather than creepy.

The most iconic moment is when Jenny, played by a pre-fame Renee Zellweger, pulls a shotgun on McConaughey's character. Instead of freaking out, Vilmer grabs the firearm by the barrel and stuffs it into his mouth. He then repeatedly slaps himself in the face while grunting like a Tusken Raider.

At this point, you question whether McConaughey was trying to play the role seriously or he was just having a laugh. McConaughey's agent was so worried about his performance, he begged the studio not to release the film theatrically.
