10 Unknown Actors Who Kicked Serious Ass In Major Films

9. Chloe Grace Moretz - Kick-Ass

Nobody had paid much attention to Chloe Grace Moretz before 2010's superhero comedy Kick-Ass. Small roles in (500) Days of Summer and Big Momma's House 2 could easily have gone unnoticed and/or passed off as the type of role any kid could have found themselves getting. But then, Ma and Pa decided that acting was taking up too much time and they needed to go back to school and were never heard of again. Moretz performance in Kick-Ass took audience by surprise as she played off an unusually brilliant Nic Cage as the sweary, ultra-violent, pre-teen Superhero, Hit-Girl. What Makes Hit-Girl stand out in Kick-Ass is the fact she's just about the only actual superhero in a film about superheroes. This allowed for Moretz to indulge in all the best fight sequences, ninja-kicking and karate-chopping her way through all the bad guys, and she makes an inspired use of a strobe light that dazzles both villains and audience alike in arguably the films most memorable scene. Together with Cage, the father/daughter duo stole the show and fuelled the controversial talking points for fans and critics alike, as well as earning Moretz the reprise-role in the follow-up sequel.
