3. Dustin Hoffman - Rick Deckard (Blade Runner)
Harrison Ford has three truly iconic roles to his great repertoire : Indiana Jones, Han Solo and
Blade Runner's Rick Deckard. Despite the fact that many movie fans are unable to imagine anybody else inhabiting these iconic roles, it's well-known that Ford wasn't the first choice for both Indy and Han Solo. And you can add Deckard to the list, too. Yes, it was Dustin Hoffman who originally signed on to play replicant hunter Rick Deckard. It was only after Hoffman pulled out because he couldn't envision himself in a science-fiction movie action role, that Steven Spielberg suggested Harrison Ford to director Ridley Scott. Hoffman wouldn't have exactly been wrong for the part, given that he's a fine actor and one capable of great dramatic depths, but his own judgement was pretty much on the money: it's difficult to imagine him racing over neon-clad rooftops and driving futuristic space cars.
