10 Unluckiest Sci-Fi Movie Characters Ever

7. Ellen Ripley - Alien

Interstellar Matthew Mcconaughey
Fox

The Alien series' heroine Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is the crowned Queen of Bad Luck, having been dealt bum hands again and again and again throughout the franchise.

Though Ripley is lucky enough to have survived the original Xenomorph incident on the Nostromo, she awakes from cryosleep 57 years later to learn that her daughter Amanda is dead.

As if this isn't enough, Ripley's employers Weyland-Yutani then "encourage" her to join them on a mission back to LV-426, where she again survives a Xeno infestation, this time alongside surrogate daughter Newt (Carrie Henn) and soldier Hicks (Michael Biehn).

But alas, when she wakes up at the start of Alien 3, Newt and Hicks are both dead, oh, and she later discovers she's impregnated with a Xenomorph Queen embryo.

Ripley then makes the brave choice to commit suicide by jumping into a furnace before the Xenomorph can burst out of her, yet even in death Ripley's run of bad luck isn't over.

In Alien Resurrection, Ripley is kinda-sorta brought back as a clone who, per the Xenomorph's genetic memory, retains some of Ripley's own memories, and has to battle aliens yet again.

That's quite the boatload of trauma, especially as per cryosleep Ripley effectively experienced it all in an extremely short period of time. Can this poor woman just have some peace, please?
