10 Unnecessary Star Wars Details You Need To Know
7. What Goes Into A Wookiee's Voice?
Though you'd be lying if you confessed to never - not even once! - trying to replicate those iconic warbles let loose by the loveable walking carpet that was Chewbacca over the course of his time within the Star Wars universe, the reality is a little more complex than simply attempting to growl and gargle at the same time.
The loyal Wookiee, inspired by George Lucas' own pet Alaskan Malamute named Indiana, had his initial voice pieced together by sound designer Ben Burtt, with the unmistakable sound actually being comprised of a number of animals' instinctive grunts and growls.
Bears, lions, badgers, walruses, and even some sick beings were all thrown together in the end as Burtt explained how he "extracted little grunts and put them all on one tape" before gathering further sounds that explored a wide array of emotions to be used for the all-important side-kick.
Simply put, a lot of time and effort went into gifting the galaxy's favourite fur-ball with his distinct dialect.
