10 Unreleased Cuts Of Movies That Are Probably Terrible

7. Mrs. Doubtfire: The R-Rated Cut

Suicide Squad

Mrs. Doubtfire is one of the most iconic family comedies of the 1990s and boasts an all-timer performance from Robin Williams in the title role, yet back in 2015 director Chris Columbus confirmed the existence of a more illicit, adult-skewing cut of the movie.

During the editorial process, Columbus created three cuts of the film to satisfy the PG, PG-13, and R MPAA ratings, even though there wasn't ever any prospect of a broad family comedy like Mrs. Doubtfire releasing in cinemas with an R rating.

Columbus primarily concocted an R-rated version of the film due to Williams, whose ad-libbing would often veer into more colourful, not-family-friendly territory.

And while an R-rated cut of Mrs. Doubtfire is a cute hypothetical, it seems like an absolute tonal car crash in reality, as Columbus would scramble to reconcile the film's more sentimental drama with Williams' ribald riffing.

Columbus has the right idea, though: he doesn't seem at all interested in releasing an R-rated cut, but has expressed enthusiasm in releasing select R-rated scenes for fans to enjoy.

It'd certainly be fun to see snippets of a foul-mouthed Euphegenia Doubtfire, but as a holistic piece of work it's tough to imagine it really working at feature-length.
