Dr. Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) gets the unique distinction of having his planned death scene cut from two movies in a row.

In the original 1931 Frankenstein, Henry was supposed to die during the film's climax, and depending on which reports you believe, he was either meant to die from being thrown from the windmill by his monstrous creation (Boris Karloff), or burning to death inside the windmill along with it.

But the climax was ultimately re-shot to grant Henry a stay of execution, allowing the film a sunnier ending in which he lives to marry Elizabeth (Mae Clarke).

Sequel Bride of Frankenstein then endeavoured to kill Henry off for keeps, alongside Elizabeth, the Monster, the Bride (Elsa Lanchester), and Doctor Pretorius (Ernest Thesiger).

But director James Whale decided just two weeks before the film's release that Henry and Elizabeth needed to live, and so quickly re-shot a happier ending which was spliced into the film mere days before it premiered.

Both of these ditched endings would be major cinematic discoveries if ever unearthed, yet sadly they're almost certainly lost to the wind forever, given that the movies are close to a whole century old.
