10 Unreleased Horror Movie Endings Fans Are Demanding To See

3. Rachel DOESN'T Kill Louis - Pet Sematary (1989)

The original big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's Pet Sematary ends with Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) ill-advisedly burying his dead wife Rachel (Denise Crosby) in the ancient burial ground in the hope of reanimating her.

As in King's novel, Louis' plan "works," but the movie deviates from the source material by having a half-rotted Rachel reunite with Louis in their kitchen and stab him to death as the movie cuts to black. The End.

Director Mary Lambert has spoken extensively about how the ending was changed at the behest of Paramount during post-production, who felt that Lambert's original, source-faithful ending was too "tame."

This ending saw Rachel enter the kitchen to greet Louis, but ended on a more ambiguous note and featured a decidedly less-decayed version of Rachel.

In a 2019 interview with Bloody Disgusting, Lambert stated her support for the original ending, which she called "more spooky and sad… tragic," while dubbing the re-shot ending "less scary but more fun."

Even though Lambert added that the original ending isn't hugely different, it would hew closer to King's novel while not ending the movie on a final violent act that's so blatantly studio-mandated.

Pet Sematary may not be a great movie, but it's nevertheless lingered around in the cultural consciousness for over 30 years, even as sequels and remakes have come and gone.

To that end, many fans would absolutely love to see that subtler original ending one day.
