It was difficult to pick just one terrible film that Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage has done, because his ratio of good to bad movies is sort of skewed. It's probably fair to say that the man has made about ten good, quality films in his 35 year career in Hollywood, and the rest range from middling to actively bad.

For the purposes of this article, Bad Lieutenant made the list, but it could have just as easily been Ghost Rider or Season of the Witch or The Wicker Man or a myriad of other truly horrendous film that Nicolas Cage has in his canon. Say what you will about him, but he has a deep bench of garbage to pull from.

But how did it get to this point? When you look at Nicolas Cage's early career, he worked on a number of interesting films, and he definitely had a solid run in the mid 1990s. And while he certainly has a quirky acting style, he has proven himself capable of identifying good projects and working on them.

So how does he so consistently choose bad films that are unflattering in their ability to showcase his tendency to chew on every piece of scenery he can find? The world may never know.
