7. Steppenwolf's Original Arrival On Earth - Suicide Squad
Suicide Squad director David Ayer has confirmed that Parademons were originally going to be part of Enchantress' army, and this concept art makes it clear that her plan was set to involve bringing Steppenwolf to Earth via a Boom Tube.
The story here was likely that the villain must have crossed paths with him and Darkseid thousands of years prior, and bringing them back to the planet would have no doubt been advantageous to the ancient villain somehow. Ayer has hinted that the movie's original MacGuffin was going to be a Mother Box, so you can probably see how this would have tied into Justice League.
This sort of connectivity in the DC Extended Universe would have been appreciated by fans, and why Warner Bros. decided not to head down this route is unclear. It certainly would have made Suicide Squad feel quite a bit more important to Zack Snyder's grand plan, anyway.
With Zack Snyder's Justice League set to give more screentime to Darkseid and Steppenwolf, it probbaly wouldn't be too difficult to add Enchantress to the mix in some way (or at least reference some sort of history between the characters).
