10 Unused Film Endings That Were Better Than The Real Thing

7. Pretty Woman Was Supposed To Be Super Bleak

Pretty Woman is not the most accurate portrayal of sex workers. As with most things in Hollywood films, things get idealised and romanticised a fair bit €“ especially when you're in the realm of romantic comedy. Even if you've got an unconventional plot like a rich guy falling for a call girl. Despite that unconventional set-up, audiences totally fell for the film starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts €“ no doubt helped by that central coupling, and the lack of realism. The whole fairy tale feel is cemented by the film's ending, where Gere's character turns up at her apartment with some flowers and tells her he loves her even when he's not paying her. It's all rather heartwarming, right? Which is the polar opposite to the original script, which had Gere's high-powered businessman driving Roberts' escort to her apartment, kicking her out of his car and leaving her with an envelope of money whilst she cries hysterically. Yay...?
