6. Fatal Attraction Might Have Had Consequences

That spate of €œerotic thrillers€ (which all seemed to star Michael Douglas €“ because that guy just oozes sex appeal) that blighted cinemas in the early nineties were decidedly less than progressive. Most of them involved men falling victim to evil women, poor defenceless men who only wanted to engage in an extra-marital affair. But Fatal Attraction was the worst offender. Adrian Lyne's film coined the phrase €œbunny boiler€ in reference to the scene when Glenn Close's unhinged young mistress gets revenge on Douglas, having kicked her to the kerb, by killing the family pet. And sticking that rabbit in a pot on the stove for his wife to find. In the end, Douglas faces no repercussions for his affair, and he teams up with his wife to kill his mistress. Nice one! Which is kind of gross, whilst the original ending involved Close committing her suicide, and Douglas getting arrested because it looked like he murdered her. But apparently that was too downbeat...
