10 Up & Coming Directors To Watch Out For

6. Martin McDonagh

78897842TT006_In_Bruges_200 Brother of John Michael McDonagh, Martin might be more important as a playwright than as a filmmaker but since his 2008 debut, he has quickly become one of the world's best filmmakers. After an acclaimed career as a playwright, McDonagh directed the 2006 short film Six Shooter, which won an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. His feature length debut, 2008's In Bruges, is one of the most underrated movies of the last decade, featuring career best performances from actors Colin Farell and Brendan Gleeson and was a brilliant mix of both comedic and dramatic elements. His next film, 2012's Seven Psychopaths was another brilliant mix of dark comedy and dramatic elements and was again criminally underrated and under seen. While he doesn't currently have any films in development, he reportedly has a number of screenplays already written for whenever he decides to make another. Regardless of whether he does anytime soon, he has already done enough to warrant a place on this list. Filmography: In Bruges (2008), Seven Psychopaths (2012)

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
