5. Duncan Jones

Son of legendary musician David Bowie, Duncan Jones burst on to the scene with 2009's sci-fi film Moon. One of the best sci-fi movies of recent years, if not ever, Moon was an astonishing work that followed a worker on a three year stint alone on a moon base, overseeing the mining of Helium-3. Following the success of Moon, Jones announced his intention to make more films in that universe but so far he has not been able to do so. His next film was 2011's Source Code which, though not quite as brilliant as Moon, still managed to be thoughtful, original, exciting, and provocative. Jones was in the running to direct both Man of Steel and Wolverine but was passed over both times. In early 2013, it was announce that Duncan Jones was picked to direct the adaption of the Warcraft series of video games. While a video game adaption probably isn't quite the best place for a director like Jones, if it is successful he might have the financial ability to purse some of his own projects.
