10 Up & Coming Directors To Watch Out For

2. Andrew Dominik

Although his first film was released in 2000, Andrew Dominik didn't really come to the attention of the movie world until his 2007 film the Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford received significant levels of acclaim. His debut film, 2000's Chopper, received good reviews but was rarely seen outside of Australia. Chopper did bring Dominik to the attention of Brad Pitt, who was so impressed with the film that he decided he wanted to work with Dominik in the future. When Pitt came on board with Assassination of Jesse James, Dominik was finally able to secure enough funding to get the go-ahead on the project. Dominik's next film, 2012's Killing Them Softly, was one of 2012's most divisive films, earning praise for its acting and directing but was criticized for being extremely cynical. Known for his strong visual aesthetic as well as his ability to tell a provocative, compelling story, Dominik is one of the most exciting directors working right now. Filmography: Chopper (2000), the Assasination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), Killing Them Softly (2012)

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
