10 Upcoming 2016 Movies You Should Really Give The Benefit Of The Doubt
3. The Trailer Was Solid And It Has Great Writers - Bridget Jones's Baby
Release Date: September 26, 2016It was easy to write off Bridget Jones's Baby before we got a glimpse of any footage - the franchise left a sour taste in everyone's mouth back in 2004 with the bad sequel Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
Now we've had a look at the trailer for Bridget Jones's Baby and realised that Rene Zellweger still looks like Rene Zellweger, though, it's hard to feel quite so negatively as we once did about this potentially unnecessary film. Because, save for Zellweger's accent, it doesn't actually look half bad. And now this trilogy-making sequel has gone from one nobody wanted to one that has people saying: "Oh, this might be all right, then?"
Maybe the key sign that it was probably going to be fine all along was in the notion that Emma Thompson co-wrote the script with both Helen Fielding (author of the Bridget Jones books and columns) and David Nichols, a talented novelist in his own right.
Yes, there's going to be an arbitrary love triangle and, yes, Bridget is going to fall over a lot, but this might well prove itself to be "a jolly good time at the movies." For every inch of you that wants to hate Bridget Jones's Baby, then, fight it back: based on that trio of writers and an admittedly funny trailer, it deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt.
