10 Upcoming 2016 Movies You Should Really Give The Benefit Of The Doubt

2. Don't Forget The First One Was A Remake Too - The Magnificent Seven

Release Date: September 23, 2016

So they're finally remaking The Magnificent Seven, a movie that - in itself - was a remake of another film (from Japan! With samurai!).

Which, of course, is precisely the reason as to why you shouldn't pre-judge this movie or deem it be unnecessary before it actually hits theatre. As was presumably the case with the original The Magnificent Seven, cinephiles cried out in horror when they heard that Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece, Seven Samurai, was getting the cowboy treatment. And then it came out and everybody was like: "Oh, that was actually awesome. Our bad."

Now, that's not to say that lightning will strike twice, but there's a chance that this remake could still be worthwhile. Admittedly, it's being directed by a filmmaker whose output is of a rather hit and mix variety (Antoine Fuqua), and the script has been penned by Nic Pizzolatto, whose True Detective has been both amazing and downright insufferable.

But what a cast! Ethan Hawke, Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt - tons of people that you like, all of whom are sure to deliver fine performances no matter what.

This could be really good, and innocent until proven guilty, right? Still, a remake of a film that was already a remake - we've gone beyond the realms of meta!
