10 Upcoming Blockbusters That Could Massively Disappoint
10. Fast And Furious 7 (April 3, 2015)
After successfully reinventing itself as a blockbuster action franchise with 2009's fourth installment, the fifth and sixth Fast and Furious movies have been two of the most purely entertaining action movies of recent years that thrilled audiences around the world, earning $626.1m and $788.7m respectively at the box office and turning the tiring series into one of the biggest brands in Hollywood. However, the tragic death of star Paul Walker has sadly robbed the franchise of one of its key players, as well as forcing a production delay and rewrites in order to complete his scenes for the movie, that involved the use of his brothers Caleb and Cody as stand-ins. Outside of those unfortunate circumstances that will most obviously affect the final product, there are other reasons why Fast and Furious 7 could be a huge disappointment. One problem could be the sheer number of characters that will be jostling for screentime, with the cast for Fast and Furious 7 swelling to Expendables-like levels. Besides the unfortunate absence of Paul Walker and exits of Gal Gadot and Sung Kang, the movie sees Lucas Black returning to the franchise while Jason Statham, Kurt Russell, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa and Djimon Honsou have all signed on to join the huge returning cast. Although the series is hardly known for its plot and characterization, the sheer number of stars could ultimately hurt the movie. As The Expendables franchise proved, having a massive number of famous faces in your action series is by no means any guarantee that it'll be good. The departure of Justin Lin as director could prove to be the biggest blow to the series, as he has proven himself as one of the best action directors in the business thanks to the frequently jaw-dropping set-pieces that the previous two movies offered. Replacement James Wan has proven to be a capable director in the horror genre, but has never so much as directed an action movie, never mind made one of such scale that is famous for its action sequences more than anything else. The upcoming installment will likely prove to be the biggest earning entry in the franchise yet, but it could also turn out to be as awful as 2 Fast 2 Furious, albeit with a much bigger budget.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
