10 Upcoming Blockbusters That Could Massively Disappoint
9. Bond 24 (October 23, 2015)
Skyfall surprised many when it went on to gross over $1.1bn at the box office, becoming not only the biggest James Bond movie ever by quite some distance but also the seventh highest-grossing movie in history at the time. Such success only brings increased expectations, and there is every danger that Daniel Craig's fourth outing as 007 could be more akin to Quantum of Solace than Casino Royale, given the problems plaguing the movie's pre-production stage. Sam Mendes delivered an entertaining 23rd installment, but not one that was without its problems. There are numerous gaping plot holes littered throughout the story, and the third act showdown in Scotland was a little too reminiscent of Home Alone than the world's biggest spy franchise. That being said, the movie did offer some great set-pieces, beautiful camerawork (Roger Deakins will surely be missed) and several nods to Bond's long and storied history. After the massive success of Skyfall, Mendes initially decided against returning, with a shortlist of potential replacements even hitting the internet before he signed on for the 24th entry in the long-running franchise. Worryingly, recent news has indicated that the start of shooting has been delayed as regular series writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade embark on a hefty rewrite of John Logan's original script, with cameras not set to begin rolling until December. With a release still scheduled for October 2015, the project requires an incredibly quick turnaround to meet that release date, which could result in a rushed and ultimately disappointing final product.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
