10 Upcoming Blockbusters You Should Be Worried About
1. Han Solo
Everyone knows the story by now. In a virtually unprecedented move, Kathleen Kennedy fired co-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller from the Han Solo spin-off with just three weeks of shooting to go, as she had apparently become unhappy with the direction the duo were taking the movie. In the weeks since, the project has had to overcome huge amounts of negative buzz and faces a battle to rehabilitate itself in the eyes of the fans after such a troubled production.
Rogue One faced similar accusations of the director being removed during reshoots and post-production and that turned out fine in the end, but that was a movie featuring mostly unknown characters and this is Han F**king Solo, one of the most iconic characters in pop culture history.
As a replacement, Ron Howard is adequate. He may be a lifelong Star Wars fan but he is also nothing more than a safe pair of hands to guide this thing to the finish line, and his recent filmography is hardly great either.
With just three weeks left to stitch it together, the final edit could result in some jarring tonal shifts between Lord and Miller's comedic sensibilities and Howard's much more straightforward style. The key to holding this all together is Alden Ehrenreich's ability to step into Han's shoes and deliver a great performance, and the jury is most definitely still out on that one.
