10 Upcoming Comic Book Films That Will Probably Be Terrible
3. The Sandman
It's been a long, trying road to get Neil Gaiman's most famous comics creation to the big screen. It's been a long, trying road getting anything of the phenomenally popular fantasy author's work to any screen, with American Gods perpetually in pre-production as a HBO miniseries, and so far only Stardust being adapted for a film adaptation. That's not for wont of trying, however. Neither is it in wont of suitability, with much of Gaiman's writing being suitable for a big-budget film of TV series. What is somewhat less suitable is The Sandman, a multi-volume series about gods, myths and stories, where there are scant villains and even less action scenes. There's a lot of talking, though. The Sandman is a project that needs a large budget, but is the sort of arty-farty thing Hollywood has no interest in. Joseph-Gordon Levitt attaching his name as screenwriter (and possible star) has finally got the gears moving and, whilst he's promised a lack of punching, it still sounds like it'll still have some action bits artificially grafted on.
