10 Upcoming Comic Book Movie Decisions That Have Already Angered Fans
2. No Spider-Man In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
The Sony leak at the tail end of last year might have been a blow against the nation's security, civil liberties and freedom of speech if the claims that the hacking came from North Korea in retribution for Kim Jong Un assassination comedy The Interview were true but they were a positive boon for movie nerds. Along with leaking unreleased films to the internet, the hackers also dumped a huge cache of internal correspondence. Namely: emails. Including, amongst some rather boring regular administrative stuff and more gossipy fare, some rather exciting prospects for the future of some of Sony's franchises. Exciting, and disappointing. Fans around the world read with bated breath through the news that Sony and Marvel had met, with the aim of hashing out an arrangement whereby Spider-Man could appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe possibly beginning with the third and fourth Avengers film with Sony holding onto the rights. Alas, it was not to be, and dangling that false carrot of hope in front of everyone's faces only served to make them mad when it was snatched away.
