10 Upcoming Comic Book Movies That Are Already Doomed To Fail

6. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

As soon as the Avengers made a boat-load of delicious money, it was inevitable that Marvel would begin to look for another property to make them some more cash, as well as perhaps trading on the ensemble appeal of that film. The fact that they chose The Guardians Of The Galaxy as that project shocked quite a lot of people, considering the odd characters who make up the universal policing force, including Rocket Raccoon. If the furry little critter immediately sets of massive Howard The Duck alarm bells in your head it's probably for good reason - film audiences need relatable human characters (which is why the Avengers with their very human concerns was so successful), and the idea of not only Rocket, but also his assorted alien companions sends Green Lantern like shivvers down my spine. James Gunn might seem a good choice after Super was such an unexpected hit, but we have to remember that this is the man who wrote Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, and whose major hits so far (Slither and Super) have had strong pastiche elements to them, and some very dark humour. Will Gunn be able to reign it in for a project that will need everything in its locker to engage audience members from the outset anyway? Unfortunately, the smart money says not.
